General description

Titanium(IV) chloride participates in the Baylis-Hillman reaction of arylaldehydes with methyl vinyl ketone.[1] Neutral solutions of TiCl4 having a pH in the range of 2.5 to 6.0 (prepared by the addition of magnesium oxide as a base) have been used for the synthesis of nanosized titanium dioxide.

Application

Activates pyrrolidines for improved conversion, via a modified Bouveault reaction, to the corresponding α,α-dimethylamines.
Along with sodium borohydride, it forms an effective reagent for the reduction of:
  • carboxylic acid and acyl chloride to alcohols
  • carboxamides, oximes and lactams to amines
  • sulfoxides to sulfides
Titanium(IV) chloride (TiCl4) has been used as a precursor for the synthesis of Ag-TiO2@polyethylene glycol (PEG) nanoparticles. TiCl4 may also be used as one of the constituents to synthesize TiO2/Al2O3 binary oxide materials and N-(10-oxo-vinylanthracen-9-(10H)-ylidene)cyanamide.

If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
