General description

We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of The 12 Principles of Greener Chemistry. This product has been enhanced for catalysis. Click here for more information.
Hydrogen peroxide solution is commonly used as a bleaching agent. . H2O2 is a reactive oxygen species formed as a reaction product of various aerobic metabolic processes. Its ultra-trace quantification in the concentration range of 10-11mole/ml by a fluorometric method has been described.[1]

Application

Greener oxidant used for bromination of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, amide bond formation from amines and aldehydes, halogenation of aromatic compounds and dethioacetalization.

Highly Selective Oxidative Monochlorination To Synthesize Organic Intermediates: 2-Chlorotoluene, 2-Chloroaniline, 2-Chlorophenol, and 2-Chloro-4-methylphenol
Hydrogen peroxide solution has been used in an immunoblotting protocol.[2]
Hydrogen peroxide solution has also been used in the preparation of ′Piranha′, a sulfuric acid/hydrogen peroxide mixture for cleaning silicon wafers used in nanostructure-initiator mass spectrometry (NIMS) chips.
It can be used as an oxidant for:
  • Epoxidation of terminal olefins under halide-free conditions.
  • Oxidation of cyclohexene to adipic acid under organic solvent- and halide-free conditions.

Questions

1–10 of 11 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/418/501/product-dating-information-06-25-mk.pdf

      Helpful?

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

      Helpful?

  3. In the product information, this product has retained full purity for 5 years when stored in the dark at 2 ~ 8 degrees Celsius. Is it also stable in original white container?

    1 answer
    1. The information available in the product data sheet refers to the material in the original package, as it is shipped. The information is correct. However, this product is assigned a retest date of approximately 2 years from the date of product release to assure quality. The retest date for each lot is reported on the Certificate of Analysis.

      Helpful?

  4. Please provide information about the specific inhibitor and its inhibitory target.

    1 answer
    1. The specific inhibitor and its inhibitory target are proprietary information. While some products disclose acetanilide as the inhibitor at approximately 200 ppm, and others mention the use of potassium stannate, the exact inhibitor and its target concentration for some products are not publicly stated. Consequently, the specific inhibitor and its inhibitory target remain undisclosed for many hydrogen peroxide products due to the competitive nature of the market.

      Helpful?

  5. Could you provide details on the type and quantity of stabilizer used in product number 216763?

    1 answer
    1. The product contains 0.5 ppm stannate-containing compounds and 1 ppm phosphorus-containing compounds to stabilize the solution. Unfortunately, the exact identity of the stabilizers is proprietary information.

      Helpful?

  6. what is inhibitor? and Is it stabilized like H1009?

    1 answer
    1. Product 216763 contains 0.5 ppm stannate-containing compounds and 1 ppm phosphorus-containing compounds to stabilize the solution. Unfortunately, the exact identity of the stabilizers is proprietary information. It is stabilized in a similar way to Product H1009.

      Helpful?

  7. What is the stabilizer in Product 216763, Hydrogen peroxide solution?

    1 answer
    1. The stabilizer is a proprietary mixture that the manufacturer does not disclose.

      Helpful?

  8. What is the density of 30% hydrogen peroxide in water, Product 216763, Hydrogen peroxide solution?

    1 answer
    1. According to the chemicals encyclopedia published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the density is about 1.11 g/mL.

      Helpful?

  9. What is the molarity of Product 216763, Hydrogen peroxide solution?

    1 answer
    1. The molarity of 30% (w/w) hydrogen peroxide is approximately 9.8 M.

      Helpful?

  10. What is the pH of Product 216763, Hydrogen peroxide solution?

    1 answer
    1. This product will give an apparent pH that is less than 4.  This is an apparent pH and not a real pH since hydrogen peroxide is not ionized at that pH.

    Good but...

This was a good product if you need 30% w/w hydrogen peroxide, but it did leak during shipping. It comes in an oversized bottle to prevent leaks, but when it arrived, the plastic wrapped around it was wet so there had been some leakage. It wasn't a lot that leaked but it was something.
