2-Methylbutane is a branched-chain alkane that is used as a solvent in the production of chlorinated derivatives, a blowing agent for polystyrene, and a chemical building block in organic synthesis. It can be derived from petroleum raw materials natural gas and crude oil[1][2].

Application

2-Methylbutane can be used as a solvent in the Lewis-acid catalyzed oligomerization of lower olefins[3].
