General description

Sodium chloride (NaCl) is a colorless solid and its crystals belong to the cubic crystal system. It is widely employed preservative for meat, vegetable and fish products. NaCl is a useful precursor for the production of sodium and chlorine containing compounds. Its effect on the growth of salmonellae (mixed inoculum of Salmonella thompson, S. stanley and S. infantis) has been investigated.

Application

Sodium chloride was used in the isolation medium along with other constituents, prepared for incubating bone-marrow cells, during the isolation and expansion of hBM-MSCs (human bone-marrow mesenchymal stem cells).

The modification of the inner nanopore wall by polymers is currently used to change the specific properties of the nanosystem. Among them, the polyethylene glycol (PEG) is the most used to prevent the fouling and ensure the wettability. However, its...

The salinity gradient between brine and fresh water is an abundant source of power which can be harvested by two major membrane methods: pressure-retarded osmosis and reversed electrodialysis. Nowadays, the latter technology is close to real application, but it still...

Human melanomas frequently harbor amplifications of EZH2. However, the contribution of EZH2 to melanoma formation has remained elusive. Taking advantage of murine melanoma models, we show that EZH2 drives tumorigenesis from benign BrafV600E- or NrasQ61K-expressing melanocytes by silencing of genes...

Autophagosome formation depends on a carefully orchestrated interplay between membrane-associated protein complexes. Initiation of macroautophagy/autophagy is mediated by the ULK1 (unc-51 like autophagy activating kinase 1) protein kinase complex and the autophagy-specific class III phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase complex I (PtdIns3K-C1). The...
