General description

Tyrosine Hydroxylase (TYH) is the rate-limiting enzyme of catecholamine biosynthesiss. TYH uses tetrahydrobiopterin and molecular oxygen to convert tyrosine to L-DOPA, a precursor to dopamine. Anti-TYH is sensitive and specific for peripheral neuroblastic tumors in the differential diagnosis from other tumors of childhood and shows high diagnostic utility. Anti-TYH has been shown to positively label all pheochromocytomas and sympathetic paragangliomas, and thus aids in differentiating them from their histologic mimics such as adrenocortical neoplasms.

The RNA-binding protein HuC/D displays a neuron-specific expression and is involved in neuronal differentiation and the maintenance of the nervous system. Here we investigated the diagnostic value of HuC/D in neuroblastomas. We evaluated 85 neuroblastic tumors: 81 neuroblastomas; 3 ganglioneuroblastomas

1. Tyrosine hydroxylase is thought to be the rate limiting enzyme step in catecholamine biosynthesis. Inhibition of this enzyme using alpha-methyl-p-tyrosine resulted in a time dependent depletion (and repletion) of formaldehyde induced fluorescence in catecholamine-containing neurones of the central nervous

This study evaluated the utility of Phox2b in paediatric tumours. Previously, tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) was the most widely utilised sympathoadrenal marker specific for neural crest tumours with neuronal/neuroendocrine differentiation. However, its sensitivity is insufficient. Recently Phox2b has emerged as another
