Arginine (Arg) is a dibasic amino acid and exists as two enantiomers: D-Arg and L-Arg. D-Arg is a cationic endogenous amino acid and is found in the central nervous system.[1]

Application

D-Arginine has been used:

as an organic substrate to study the metabolic versatility of freshwater sedimentary archaea feeding on different organic carbon sources[2]
to study its role in the inhibition of Pseudorabies virus (PRV) plaque formation by arginase[3]
as a reference standard for chromatographic separation[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

D-Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid that maintains cell death in the central nervous system (CNS). It may possess neuroprotective actions against glucocorticoids induced neurotoxicity in the CNS.[1]
