General description

Acrylamide has been classified as probably carcinogenic in humans. It is formed in fried and oven-cooked foods due to Maillard reaction between amino acids and reducing sugars.[1]

Application

Acrylamide solution is suitable for use in electrophoresis. It may be used in the preparation of gel buffer for the determination of molecular weight of polypeptide chains by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.[2] It may be used in the electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole. It may be used to prepare the pH 7.6 gels, required for the determination of molecular weights of histone by sodium dodecyl sulfate gel electrophoresis.[3]

Preparation Note

Prepared from electrophoresis grade acrylamide in ultra-pure water.

SDS/PAGE is universally used in biochemistry, cell biology, and immunology to resolve minute protein amounts readily from tissue and cell extracts. Although molecular weights of water-soluble proteins are reliably determined from their SDS/PAGE mobility, most helical membrane proteins, which comprise

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. What is the ratio of acrylamide:bisacrylamide in this product? Is it 37.5:1, 29:1 or 19:1 (or maybe other?)

    1 answer
    1. This product is simply a 40% solution of Acrylamide and does not contain any Bis-acrylamide. Note that there are several Acrylamide/Bis-acrylamide 40% solutions available. Please see the link below to review these product options:

  4. What is the solvent in this solution. Water? Or organic solvent?

    1 answer
    1. The solution is prepared from electrophoresis grade acrylamide in ultra-pure water and aseptically filtered to insure the highest quality and reproducibility.
