This product is not routinely tested for Biotin. However, this material is dialyzed with a 10 kDa cutoff membrane. This dialysis step removes small molecules such as biotin, which has a molecular weight of less than 500 Da. Therefore, this product is considered low in biotin, helping to prevent interference with streptavidin–biotin binding.

General description
This BSA product is specifically evaluated and tested for the following properties:
- Very low protease content / protease-free
- Very low fatty acid content / fatty acid-free
Protease-free BSA is especially useful for applications like:
- Enzyme assays
- Protein-based assays
- Protease-sensitive techniques that include:
b. Nucleic acid hybridization
c. Radioimmunoassay (RIA)
Application
- as a constituent of medium used for the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells
- in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and sandwich ELISA
- to permeabilize fetal cortical cells
This A7030 BSA has specifically been used as a component of blocking buffer in a peptide-based ELISA assay for analysis of COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 samples (Poh, C.K. et al., Nat. Commun., 11(1), 2806 (2020)).

Is it possible that BSA contains ions such as Mg2+? I am considering adding it to the buffer, but I am concerned that it might activate the enzyme.
1 answer-
The magnesium content of this material is not routinely tested, but historical data indicates that three lots contained between 10-20 parts per million. Water is used as the pre-lyophilization solvent.

How does protease content determined? With this value all proteases are included? Or only refers to plasmatic proteases.
1 answer-
The specific method used to test this material for protease activity is considered proprietary. However, it is based on the enzymatic cleavage of FITC-Casein. See the link below to review the FITC-Casein Enzymatic Assay to demonstrate the principal of this method.
