Application

IL-2 assay and cloning studies
Jurkat E6.1 cell line has been used to:
  • study cell-independent/vector-free delivery of bovine serum albumin-fluorescein conjugate
  • determine the cytotoxicity of the cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) holotoxin and its components
  • study the expression of bisphenol A exposed estrogen receptor-β (ERβ) and estrogen-related-receptor-α (ERRα) in vitro

Biochem/physiol Actions

Derived from Jurkat FHCRC. An IL-2 producing cell line, derived by incubating the cells at 41°C for 48 hours followed by a limiting dilution cloning over macrophages.
Human leukaemic T cell lymphoblast

Application note on how the CellASIC® ONIX2 microfluidic system can be used to analyze caspase-3 mediated apoptosis/cell death and cellular hypoxia in live immune and cancer cell lines.

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How many viable cells are in the vial of Jurkat E3.1 cells?

    1 answer
    1. This product is a suspension cell line which is packaged as 4-5 million cells per vial.

      Helpful?

  2. Does this particular batch of Jurkat E6.1 express CD28?

    1 answer
    1. The Jurkat E6.1 cell line is a banked product of ECACC and is tested sterility, viability, mycoplama, and identity. It is not tested for any specific expression. The depositor listed in Prof H Harris/Dr C Madin, Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford. The line has not been further modified. Various publications suggest that the E6.1 does express CD28, however we cannot validate these claims. It may be helpful to refer to the literature for further information.

      Helpful?

  3. I am interested in Jurkat cells; product number 88042803 appears to be a vial of these cells for culturing. But why is the extension '-DNA-5UG' in the product number? Does this mean that it is not cells but 5 µg DNA isolated from Jurkat cells???

    1 answer
    1. To order the actual cells, order the SKU with the -1VL suffix, 88042803-1VL. This SKU is for the Jurkat E6.1 cells that can be propagated and maintained in culture. The other SKUs listed there are preparations of DNA, RNA and cDNA from this cell line.
