SAOS-2 cell line has been used to study the importance of cyclin D1 for the activity of lithocholic acid hydroxyamide (LCAHA). It has also been used to study the effect of chromium-enriched diamond-like carbon (DLC) layers on cell adhesion and proliferation.[1][2]

Human primary osteogenic sarcoma

Preparation Note

McCoy′s 5a + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.

  1. Does this cell line express CYP1a2 or CYP3a4

    1. Saos-2 cells, derived from human osteosarcoma, are known to express the cytochrome P450 enzymes CYP1A2 and CYP3A4. However, the production of this cell line does not include the expression profiles of these specific enzymes in the standard characterization of the Saos-2 cell line.
