Application

KELLY cell line has been used to study the role of polysialic acid (PSA) in controlling tumor cell growth and differentiation by interfering with neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) signaling. It has also been used to study the role of protein tyrosine phosphatase SHP1 in inhibiting Ret oncogene activity.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Human neuroblastoma
The cells possess a genomic amplification of the N-myc gene and express elevated levels of N-myc RNA or protein.

Preparation Note

RPMI 1640 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:5 to 1:20 i.e. seeding at 5x1,000-2x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. I've been using Kelly cells for my thesis. We used CRISPR to generate knockout cells of a X chromosome gene but only obtained homozygous mutants, suggesting possible chromosomal aberrations or monosomy. Can we obtain their karyotype information?

    1 answer
    1. Karyotype information for this cell line is not specified.

      Helpful?

  2. E' stato mai eseguito un saggio su queste cellule per l'espressione del recettore della transferrina 1?

    1 answer
    1. These cells have not been tested for transferrin 1 receptor expression.
