General description

Exportin 1/Crm1 (also known as XPO1, Exp1, chromosome region maintenance 1 protein homolog) is mapped to human chromosome 2p15.

Application

Anti-Exportin 1/Crm1 (C-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Exportin 1/Crm1 has been implicated in various steps during mitosis.
Exportin-1 is a protein encoded by the XPO1 gene in humans. It is a novel cell-cycle regulated gene that is essential for the nuclear export signal-dependent nuclear export of proteins. XPO1 is highly expressed in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) cells. It acts as selective inhibitor of nuclear export (SINE) compounds that induce apoptosis in MCL cells. XPO1 is expressed in subpopulation of Gastric cancer (GC) with aggressive behavior and can serve as a prognosis marker for poor outcome. It has helical hairpin HEAT repeats and a C-terminal helical extension (C-extension). The C-extension helps in regulating CRM1′s cargo-binding affinity by modulating the conformation and flexibility of its HEAT repeats.

Chromosome region maintenance 1/exportin1/Xpo1 (CRM1) associates with the GTPase Ran to mediate the nuclear export of proteins bearing a leucine-rich nuclear export signal (NES). CRM1 consists of helical hairpin HEAT repeats and a C-terminal helical extension (C-extension) that inhibits the
