Purified over 1,000 fold. May contain a trace of β-mercaptoethanol.

Application

Folate binding protein can be used in radioligand binding assays of serum folate. The folate receptor has been used in studies as a therapeutic target in a variety of cancers.
Folate binding protein from bovine milk has been used in folate binding studies using surface plasmon resonance[1] and in the uptake studies in kidney proximal tubule cells.[2]
Useful for radioligand binding assays of serum folate. May also bind N-methyltetrahydrofolic acid and other folate analogues.[3][4][5]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Folate-binding protein (FBP) is present as a cell receptor and binds to folate in equimolar ratio.[6][7] It is involved in the transport of folate and improves their bioavailability.[8]
