General description

Ficoll® 400 is a non-ionic synthetic polymer of sucrose used for cell separation and organ isolation.

Application

Suitable for
  • hybridization experiments to reduce non-specific binding of labeled probes to the membrane
  • preparation of DNA loading buffer (15% Ficoll®, 0.25% bromophenol blue and 0.25% xylene cyanol FF
  • separation of cells with similar density but different size (PBMC from human peripheral blood, bone marrow and umbilical cord blood)
  • producing density gradients to separate subcellular components
  • vitrification of cell and tissue samples.
  • to compare the effect of different perfusates on Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV).
Used for cell separation and organelle isolation.

    Yes. It is Ficoll 400.  This product is graded molecular biology grade and is free of any nucleases

  4. Can Product F2637, Ficoll, be used as a component of a DNA loading buffer?

    This product can be used in a DNA loading buffer with the following recipe to prepare a 6X stock:0.25% bromophenol blue0.25% xylene cyanol FF15% Ficoll

  5. What is the difference between Ficoll 400 and Ficoll PM 400?

    The difference between Ficoll 400 and Ficoll PM 400 is the PM 400 has stricter specifications on the number of microorganisms/g and the endotoxin level is < 0.125 EU/ml

  6. Do you have a protocols for use of Product F2637, Ficoll, in various applications?

    Please check the product information sheet for F4375 which has a detailed protocol.

  7. Can you use Product F2637, Ficoll, to isolate mononuclear cells?

    When trying to isolate mononuclear cells you can use this product but we offer Histopaque that is a mixture of Ficoll and Hypaque. For humans, we offer H8889, Histopaque®-1077 Hybri-Max or 1077-1, Histopaque®-1077. For rodents we offer 1083-1, Histopaque®-1083. For isolation of neutrophils, we offer 1119-1, Histopaque®-1119.
