Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Biochem/physiol Actions

Ficolin-1 (or M-ficolin) is a protein encoded by the FCN1 gene in humans. It is a soluble pattern recognition molecule synthesized by myeloid cells and is capable of activating the lectin pathway of complement on the surface of pathogens. It is found to be tethered to the membranes of monocytes and granulocytes. FCN1 polymorphism is associated with leprosy and may represent a novel key to understanding the immunopathogenesis of M. leprae infection.
