Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. Biochem/physiol Actions

Ninein-like protein (Nlp) is a protein encoded by the NINL gene in humans. It is a new member of the γ-tubulin complexes binding proteins (GTBPs) and is essential for proper execution of various mitotic events. The main function of this gene is to promote microtubule nucleation that contributes to centrosome maturation, spindle formation and chromosome segregation. Its overexpression induces anchorage-independent growth and immortalised primary cell transformation. Nlp is a novel centrosome protein involved in microtubule nucleation. It is involved in centrosome maturation (contributing to chromosome segregation and cytokinesis) and spindle formation. It also plays an important role in tumorigenesis. Nlp may play a role in ovarian carcinogenesis.
