General description

TSKU (tsukushi, small leucine rich proteoglycan) gene encodes a member of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family. It is mapped to human chromosome 11q13.5.

Biochem/physiol Actions

TSKU (tsukushi, small leucine rich proteoglycan) gene encodes a secretory protein Tsukushi (TSK) that plays a role in the inhibition of Wnt signaling by binding directly to the cysteine-rich domain of Fzd4 (Frizzled), a seven-pass transmembrane protein. It regulates the formation of retinal and peripheral eye in the developing chick and mice.
