General description

Nucleobindin 2 (NUCB2) is a Ca2+-binding leucine zipper-containing protein. It is located in the Golgi apparatus and belongs to the nucleobindin family of DNA- and calcium-binding proteins. NUCB2 contains helix-loop-helix domains.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Nucleobindin 2 (NUCB2) along with aminopeptidase 1 (ARTS-1) regulates tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1) release to the extracellular space. The helix-loop-helix domain of NUCB2 binds to the extracellular domain of ARTS-1. This results in the formation of a calcium-dependent NUCB2-ARTS-1 complex which associates with TNFR1. TNFR1is released in the form of exosome-like vesicles.
