General description

Nestin (NES) is a class VI cytoplasmic protein. It is expressed in the intermediate filaments and has a molecular weight of 177kDa. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 1q23.1 with four exons.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to residues 254-270 of human Nestin. This sequence is 93% identical in rat.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Nestin (NES) functions as a regulator of proteins which are involved in cell growth. It also interacts with other proteins of the intermediate filament. NES has been studied as a marker of neural stem cells.

Physical form

solution in phosphate buffered saline, containing 0.02% sodium azide.
