Application

D-(+)-Raffinose pentahydrate has been used as a cryoprotectant for Caudal epididymis[1] and zebrafish sperm.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Raffinose is a galactosyl-glucosyl-fructosyl trisaccharide, which belongs to the family of oligosaccharides.[3] It is hydrolyzed to D-galactose and sucrose by D-galactosidase.[4] Raffinose is extracted from beet sugar molasses, cottonseed meal and seeds of food legumes.[3] It has cell proliferative and anti-oxidative properties. Raffinose improves immune response and also has healing property.[5]
