Biochem/physiol Actions
Platelet factor-4 (PF-4) or chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 4 is chemotactic towards neutrophils and monocytes and has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis.[5] This protein associates with heparin and neutralizes it. It also neutralizes various other negatively charged proteoglycans. PF-4 / CXCL4 is implicated in cancer development.[6] PF-4 regulates the activity of proangiogenic growth factors. PF-4 / CXCL4 function as a biomarker for systemic sclerosis and early tumor growth.[7][8] PF-4 / CXCL4 is associated with various pathological conditions such as atherosclerosis, liver fibrosis and inflammation.[8]
