General description

GM-CSF (granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, also referred to as CSF2) is produced in by endothelial cells, monocytes, fibroblasts and T-lymphocytes. Recombinant murine GM-CSF is a 14.2kDa globular protein consisting of 124 amino acids residues. The human and murine molecules are species-specific and exhibit no cross-species reactivity.

Application

GM-CSF (granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor) mouse has been used to check effect of GM-CSF on retinal ganglion cell neurite outgrowth in the retinal explants.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

GM-CSF (granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, also referred to as CSF2) is a hematopoietic growth factor that stimulates the development of neutrophils and macrophages and promotes the proliferation and development of early erythroid megakaryocytic and eosinophilic progenitor cells.[2][3] It enhances neutrophil migration.[4] GM-CSF plays a crucial role in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.[5] In neutrophils, it promotes the expression of TLR2 (Toll-like receptor) and TLR2-associated interleukin 8 responses, thereby eliminating microbial attack.[6]

Physical form

Lyophilized from 10 mM acetic acid

Preparation Note

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a stabilizer (example 5% Trehalose) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
