Type 304 stainless steel is covered by highly protective film of chromium oxyhydroxide. Hydrochloric acid solution readily attacks 304SS. Hence, it is recommended to add inhibitors like heterocyclic compounds to reduce the corrosion rate. 304SS materials are suitable for tubing and for wires as it exhibit strength and are corrosion resistant.
