Application

Crimp seal with PTFE/butyl septum (Pharma-Fix) may be used to seal standard residual solvents for the determination of residual solvents in drug substances using headspace gas-chromatography coupled with flame ionization detector (HS-GC-FID).[1]
PTFE-faced butyl septum was used in sealing headspace vials to analyse the sampling efficiency and breakthrough of methyl bromide on activated charcoal using GC.[2] It was also used for sealing water samples during headspace analysis with GC-FID, in a study which demonstrates cross-validation of methods used for methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) analysis.[3]

Questions

  1. ¿Perdonen, cual es la permeabilidad de los tapones de butyl/PTFE?

    1 answer
    1. There is no assigned value but the butyl septum has ultra-low permeability. It can be used with many organic solvents: acetic acid (<50%), acetonitrile, acetone, alcohols, DMSO, phenol. Not compatible with alkanes, benzene, carbon disulfide, chlorinated solvents, cyclohexane. It has a maximum temperature of 200 °C.
