Introduction

The versatile and reusable manu-CART® cartridge holders are designed to fit a range of LiChroCART® cartridge lengths and internal diameters. Since these cartridge holders may remain in the system, and the capillary connections do not need to be detached, the cartridges may be changed within the shortest possible time. This flexibility broadens the scope of HPLC applications, allowing for seamless cartridge integration with merely a twist of the hand.

The LiChroCART® cartridge column hardware is available for Purospher®, Purospher® STAR, LiChrospher®, Superspher®, ChiraDex® and LiChrosorb® HPLC columns and customized products on demand. 

On the left, there is a fully assembled piece consisting of a cap nut with a knurled surface, designed for easy gripping and fastening. It connects to another metallic section, forming a cylindrical shape. On the right, the parts of the cartridge holder are disassembled: two cap nuts are displayed alongside four smaller cylindrical components (spin collets), and two larger threaded end fittings.

manu-CART® NT cartridge holder

The re-usable manu-CART® NT cartridge holder seamlessly accommodates cartridges with diameters of 2, 3, 4, and 4.6 mm, along with lengths of 75, 100, 125, 150 and 250 mm. A simple turn permits an easy and problem-free integration of a LiChroCART® 4-4 guard cartridge.

The manu-CART® NT cartridge holder consists of two cap nuts, four spin collets, and two endfittings.

These instructions describe how to fit the pieces to just one end of your cartridge. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for the other end.

An assembly process where two components are being connected. The top part is a cylindrical piece that attaches to a lower component, which is a threaded fitting connected to tubing. Two half-circle clips are inserted from the sides into a groove on the threaded fitting to ensure a secure connection between the parts. An arrow indicates the top part should be attached by pushing it downward onto the threaded fitting, allowing for a firm, reliable connection for fluid transfer. This assembly does not require an additional precolumn.
  1. Insert the cartridge through the endfitting, so that the outer thread is at the outermost end.
  2. Place two split collets around the neck of the cartridge as shown in the figure on the left.
  3. Push the endfitting up over the 2 split collets.
  4. Screw the end cap over the assembled endfitting. Tighten it finger-tight.
  5. When you install your column into the flow path of your LC, tighten the endfittings leak-tight using a wrench.

Mounting manu-CART® holder to a LiChroCART® cartridge with integration of a LiChroCART® 4-4 guard cartridge

These instructions describe how to fit the pieces to just one end of your cartridge.

An assembly process where two components are connected, with an additional intermediary part being inserted between them. The top piece is a cylindrical object being directed downward to fit onto the lower threaded piece connected to tubing. In the middle, a smaller cylindrical insert is shown being placed into the fitting before the two main components are joined. On the sides, two half-circle clips are being inserted into grooves on the threaded piece to secure the connection. This setup shows how to assemble the system when an extra component is involved, ensuring a secure and reliable connection for fluid transfer.
  1. Insert the cartridge through the endfitting, so that the outer thread is at the outermost end.
  2. Place two split collets around the neck of the cartridge as shown in the figure on the left.
  3. Place the guard column cartridge inside the space at the end of the collets.
  4. Push the endfitting up over the assembled guard column.
  5. Screw the end cap over the assembled endfitting. Tighten it finger-tight.
  6. When you install your column into the flow path of your LC, tighten the endfittings leak-tight using a wrench.

Mounting Shorter LiChroCART® HPLC cartridges

Short LiChroCART® cartridges with 30 mm and 55 mm lengths require a separate manu-CART® holder.

manu-CART® holder 55 mm (1.50226) for LiChroCART® 55-4, 55-3 and 55-2

These cartridge holders have one tube (30 or 55 mm in length) and two endfittings that suit columns with internal diameters of 2 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm. To assemble, slide the tube onto the cartridge and secure the end fittings onto both ends of the tube.

 

manu-CART® coupling unit to connect two LiChroCART® cartridges and additional manu-CART® holders

Additionally, a coupling unit facilitates the seamless connection of two LiChroCART® cartridges, with an optional kit provided for linking a LiChroCART® cartridge to a LiChroCART® 25×4 pre-cartridge.

LiChroCART® cartridges with 10 mm I.D. require the re-usable manu-CART® “10” II holder which can be used in the same way as the manu-CART® NT holder with or without integration of a corresponding LiChroCART® 10-10 guard-cartridge.
