Copper nitrate hydrate, along with ammonium nitrate, can be used to prepare p-type semiconductor CuO films (bandgap energy of 1.4 eV). It can catalyze oxidative coupling of 2,6-dimethylphenol to produce a polymer which is an important engineering material.
