Description

General description

GM-CSF was initially characterized as a growth factor that can support the in vitro colony formation of granulocyte-macrophage progenitors. It is produced by a number of different cell types (including activated T cells, B cells, macrophages, mast cells, endothelial cells and fibroblasts) in response to cytokine of immune and inflammatory stimuli. Besides granulocyte-macrophage progenitors, GM-CSF is also a growth factor for erythroid, megakaryocyte and eosinophil progenitors. On mature hematopoietic, monocytes/macrophages and eosinophils. GM-CSF has also been reported to have a functional role on non-hematopoitic cells. It can induce human endothelial cells to migrate and proliferate. Additionally, GM-CSF can also stimulate the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines, including osteogenic sarcoma, carcinoma and adenocarcinoma cell lines.

eGranulocyte Macrophage Colony Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF) is a potent species-specific stimulator of bone marrow cells. GM-CSF stimulates precursor cells of granulocytes, macrophages and eosinophils. Human GM-CSF is a 14 kDa protein containing 128 amino acids residues.

Application

For most in vitro applications, human GM-CSF exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.05 to 0.5 ng/mL. Responding cells are (partial list): Certain BM precursor cells.

Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user.

Physical form

The sterile filtered solution was lyophilized from 10mM Sodium Citrate, pH 3.5.

Storage and Stability

The lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature, is best stored at -20ºC. After a quick spin, reconstitute with sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into other buffered solutions and stored at 2-8ºC for 1 week or -20ºC for future use. After reconstitution maintain at -20ºC in undiluted aliquots for up to six months.
