General description

Oncostatin M is an important growth regulating cytokine that affects, variably, a number of tumor and normal cells. Oncostatin M exerts inhibitory effects on the growth of A375 melanoma and other cancer cells but augments the growth of normal fibroblasts, AIDS related Kaposi sarcoma cells, and certain other cells. Human Oncostatin M is a 26 kDa protein containing 227 amino acid residues.

For most in vitro applications, Oncostatin M exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.2 to 20 ng/mL. Responding cells are (partial list): Tumor cells, certain other cells.

Storage and Stability

The lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated below 0°C. Reconstitute with sterile water to a concentration of 100 ng/uL. This solution can be diluted into other buffered solutions. Reconstituted Oncostatin M should be stored in undiluted aliquots at-20°C for up tp six months.

Analysis Note

Specific Activity: Human Oncostatin M is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of human TF-1 cells is <= 2 ng/mL
