Description

General description

Transforming Growth Factor-a (TGF-a) is a polypeptide growth factor which stimulates the proliferation of a wide range or epidermal and epithelial cells. TGF-a has been shown a play a role in the autocrine growth of certain transformed cells. Human TGF-a is a 5.5 kDa protein containing 50 amino acid residues.

Application

For most in vitro applications, TGFalpha exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.5 to 25.0 ng/mL. Responding cells are (partial list): Epidermal, mesothelial cells.

Storage and Stability

The lyophilized TGF-alpha, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated below 0°C. Reconstitute in sterile distilled water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into other buffered solutions. Reconstituted TGF-alpha should be stored at 4°C for up to one week or at -20°C in undiluted aliquots for up to six months.

Analysis Note

Specific Activity: Chemicon′s mouse GM-CSF is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of mouse FDC-P1 cells in <= 0.2 ng/mL
