Application

Ethyl trans-4-bromo-2-butenoate (Ethyl-4-bromocrotonate) was used in the synthesis of (+)-cyclophellitol, a potent β-glucosidase inhibitor. It was also used in the synthesis of pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyridin-2(1H)-ones.

General description

Ethyl trans-4-bromo-2-butenoate (Ethyl-4-bromocrotonate) reacts with carbanions derived from phenylsulfones and β-ester sulfides, followed by the displacement of Br to yield various cyclopropanecarboxylates.
