What is the difference between the two Laemmli buffers S3401 and 38733?
Product No. S3401 is 0.125M Tris (pH 6.8) in 80% water/20% glycerol, with 4% SDS, 10% 2-mercaptoethanol and 0.004% bromophenol blue. 38733 is 0.125M Tris in 80% water/20% glycerol, with 4% SDS, 400 mM DTT and 0.004% bromophenol blue.So the only difference is the reducing agent; 2-mercaptoethanol (strong odor) vs. the DTT (not nearly as strong an odor).
What is the advantage of using Laemmli Lysis-buffer,Product No. 38733?
The odor of 38733 is not nearly as strong as that of S3401 (which has 2-mercaptoethanol).Some people are very sensitive to the odor of 2-mercaptoethanol.
Is Laemmli Lysis-buffer, Product No. 38733, a 1× or a 2× solution?
For most applications, it is considered to be a 2X solution.
Why do the Laemmlisample buffers like S3401 and 38733 have glycerol in them?
An aqueous buffer with 20% glycerol is denser than one without. So when the sample is added to the well of an electrophoresis gel, it tends to stay in the well.
