Biochem/physiol Actions

PGAM2 (phosphoglycerate mutase 2) is a dimeric enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 3-PGA (3-phosphoglycerate) to 2-PGA (2-phosphoglycerate) in the glycolytic pathway. Defects in this gene causes glycogen storage disease X, characterized by myoglobinuria, increased serum creatine kinase levels, myalgia, muscle pain, cramps and intolerance to exercise. Upon oxidative stress, SIRT2 (sirtuin 2) is activated. The activated SIRT2 deacetylates and activates PGAM2, impacting cell proliferation and tumor growth.
