Description

General description

Betaine also called trimethylglycine or N,N,N triethylammonium acetate, is an analog of glycine with three methyl groups. It is present majorly in kidney, testes and liver. It is highly compatible with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) buffer mixture. It manages the melting temperature (Tm) difference between the GC and AT pairs in DNA.

Application

Betaine solution has been used as a component of
• loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) reactions
• polymerase chain reaction for genomic DNA amplification
• quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) for telomere length analysis
