Biochem/physiol Actions

The complement system is a part of the immune system which helps host′s defense against microbial infection. C1Q is a subunit of C1 complement complex and it helps C1 in binding to the immune complex. C1Q associates with other components C1R and C1S to C1. The pneumococcal endopeptidase O (PepO) interacts with C1Q and suppresses the complement pathway. Single nucleotide polymorphism in C1Q is associated with risk for development of rheumatoid arthritis. Similarly, gene polymorphism in C1QB is linked as a risk factor for schizophrenia.
