General description

CTNNB1 (catenin β 1) gene is mapped to human chromosome 3p21. The protein encoded is also called as cadherin-associated protein. The encoded protein β-catenin is localized to the nucleus.

The antibody does not cross-react with plakoglobin (γ-catenin).

recombinant chicken β-catenin.

Biochem/physiol Actions

In Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway, β-Catenin participates as a signal transduction molecule. The pathway is associated with development, tissue homeostasis and oncogenic transcription. Upregulation of the gene is associated with glioma cell proliferation. The encoded protein has dual function that regulates the coordination of cell-cell adhesion by linking cytoskeleton and cellular junctions and gene transcription. Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway is known to induce progression of colon cancer progression. It is useful for differential diagnosis of Osteoblastoma (OB) and osteosarcoma (OS). β-catenin signaling pathway may contribute to cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) cell proliferation.
