Cell Line Origin

Human tongue squamous carcinoma

Cell Line Description

Derived from a human squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the tongue from a 55-year-old male. SCC-4 cells have been reported to form colonies in semi-solid medium, and are not induced to differentiate by anchorage deprivation. Growth is enhanced by use of a feeder layer of 3T3 swiss cells.

Culture Medium

DMEM:HAMS F12 (1:1) + 2 mM Glutamine + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) + 0.4 μg/ml hydrocortisone

Subculture Routine

Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:4, i.e., seeding at 3-5 x 10,000 cells/cm2 using trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C

Other Notes

Cultures from HPA Culture Collections and supplied by Sigma are for research purposes only. Enquiries regarding the commercial use of a cell line are referred to the depositor of the cell line. Some cell lines have additional special release conditions such as the requirement for a material transfer agreement to be completed by the potential recipient prior to the supply of the cell line. Please view the Terms & Conditions of Supply for more information.
