General description

Filamins is a high molecular mass, large flexible actin cross-linking protein expressed in muscle and non-muscle cells. It has a molecular weight of approximately 250kDa and forms dimers in solution. The name filamins refers to its filamentous colocalization with actin stress fibers. It has an actin binding domain and a homodimerization domain.

Anti-Filamin antibody is suitable for indirect immunofluorescence at a dilution of 1:200 by using cultured chicken fibroblasts, microarray, and western blot analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Filamin has been primarily identified from smooth muscle but it has also been identified in macrophages, neutrophils, platelets and other cell types. It binds to the ring zinc finger domain of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-associated factor 2 (TRAF2).
