General description

EPO (erythropoietin) encodes a protein belonging to the cytokine type I superfamily. It is a secreted, glycosylated cytokine that contains four α−helical bundles.

Immunogen Sequence: GI # 4503589, sequence 1-193

Recombinant erythropoietin

Anti-Erythropoietin antibody produced in chicken is suitable for western blotting at a working dilution of 1:500 and for cell staining at a working dilution of 1:200. It is also suitable for ELISA.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Erythropoietin (EPO) promotes erythroid differentiation and hemoglobin synthesis and is involved in the regulation of red cell production. It exhibits neuroprotective activity against several potential brain injuries. In immature erythroid cells, EPO binds to its receptor (EPOR) and represses apoptosis, promotes cell proliferation and differentiation into mature erythrocytes. Presence of EPO induces proliferation and invasion of bladder cancer cells. It is also up-regulated in uterine leiomyoma. Under hypoxia, EPO is up-regulated. EPO levels are higher in humans suffering from thalassemia.
