General description

IRF8 (interferon regulatory factor 8) is an IFN (interferon)-γ-inducible transcription factor, belonging to the IFN regulatory factor (IRF) family. It is present in almost all the cells of immune system.

Solution in phosphate-buffered saline, pH 7.2, containing 40% glycerol and 0.02% sodium azide

Biochem/physiol Actions

IRF8 (interferon regulatory factor 8) plays a vital role in regulating the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic progenitor cells. Deficiency of IRF8 causes a chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML)-like syndrome, indicating its vital role in the development of myeloid cells. It forms complex with other members of the IRF family and the IFN-stimulated response element (ISRE) to regulate type I IFNs (interferons)-stimulated gene expression, namely IFN-α and IFN-β. It has also been reported that IRF8 has ability to inhibit DNA-binding activity of IRF9.
