Description

General description

Cholinergic receptor nicotinic β2 subunit (CHRNB2), a subunit of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, associates with the α4 subunit and forms pentameric channels. The β2 subunit forms the pore of these channels and is expressed in the central nervous system. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 1q21.3.

Specificity

Recognizes an epitope on the extracellular surface of the β2 subunit of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. Binds only native acetylcholine receptors.

Immunogen

nicotinic acetylcholine receptors from purified rat brain.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor (β2 Subunit) antibody produced in rat has been used in immunoprecipitation.

Physical form

Solution in 10 mM phosphate buffered saline containing 10 mM sodium azide.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cholinergic receptor nicotinic β2 subunit (CHRNB2) has been associated with neuroprotection and nicotine addiction. It is linked to high affinity binding in relation with dopamine release. The protein may be a target for therapeutics and anesthetics. Mutation in the CHRNB2 gene has been linked to autosomal dominant frontal lobe epilepsy.
