Isoquinolines, structural isomers of quinolines, are benzopyridines, composed of a benzene ring fused to a pyridine ring. The isoquinoline skeleton possesses interesting bioactivities and acts as the fundamental part of numerous natural products and synthetic pharmaceuticals. Because of their wide range of activities, the synthesis of isoquinolines holds considerable interest and many synthetic approaches allow access to these structures. The presence of a halogen allows these reagents to be used as substrates in various coupling reactions, including Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions.
