  1. I do not have an account with Sigma-Aldrich; Can I still place an on-line order?

    Your organization does not need to have an account to place an order through our website.

    If you wish to place an order through the web site, simply add the items you wish to order to a shopping cart, and select check out.

    Please complete the registration form. This information will assist our staff in shipping your items.

    Due to the hazardous and regulated nature of many of our products, our personnel may need to review your order prior to shipment of the material.

    If your order requires further review, you can expect a response from your local office within two business days.

  2. Is on-line ordering really secure?

    Yes. Data sent between Sigma-Aldrich webservers and you computer is encrypted using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. This protects the data while it travels over the Internet and is unencrypted for display by your computer.

  3. What will my information be used for?

    All transactions that you initiate with Sigma-Aldrich on this web site are confidential. Services such as "Saved Carts" and "Favorite Products" are for your convenience and are provided solely as customer services. Your name will be added to our mailing list only if you proactively request it to be when you register. Learn more about our Privacy Policy .

  4. I couldn't find an item on your web site that I know you carry in one of the Sigma-Aldrich brand Catalogs, can I still order it?

    At times there may be a delay in updating the on-line catalog with new products. There are also products that are in the process of being phased out that may no longer be included in the site. As long as the item is still availble for sale, you can still order it. If you cannot find the product through the site's search engine, try entering the product number (without the punctuation often seen in our printed catalogs) directly in the shopping cart. If all else fails, feel free to add the information in the "Special Order Note" field of the shopping cart. This information is reviewed by Customer Support when you submit the order.

    Please Note: The shopping cart does require at least one valid product to be added in order to be submitted.

  5. What if I have a question about my order?

    Please feel free to email our Customer Support Department with any questions about your order. If you prefer, you may also contact your local office by phone or fax. Please be sure to provide your name, account information and order number so that we can promptly address your needs.   6. What payment methods are available to me?

    We offer three methods of payment when ordering through our web site.
        – Credit/Procurement Cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express)
        – Purchase Orders
        – Summary Invoice Data Elements for customer accounts currently receiving customized billing

  7. If I order on-line, will I still receive contractual pricing?

    If your Organization has an existing account, and your profile is affiliated to your organization, you will see any contractual pricing tied to your organization when logged on to our website.

  8. Is there more than one way to create and order?

    Once your profile has been set-up with ordering access, you will have a number of ways to place an order. The steps for each of these are detailed in our ordering help section.

  9. My company has a custom built PipeLine secure site. Can I place orders on the public site?

    Certain customers utilize customized web sites, known as PipeLine, for ordering products from Sigma-Aldrich. Orders placed through these sites are monitored by a team of dedicated account representatives. If your organization has a PipeLine site, please utilize it for ordering. There is certainly no restriction on using the main Sigma-Aldrich site for gathering technical information.

  10. What confirmation will I get?

    You will receive an e-mail confirmation shortly after you submit your order. This confirmation will contain your order number, product availability, back-order fulfillment dates, order transit time, and contractual pricing where appropriate. In the event of questions, you may also receive an email requiring some response from you.

  11. How do I register with

    Registration is fast and easy, and is a great way to simplify your on-line experience.

    Simply click the start link for New user under the Account Tab, and complete the contact information form.

    Once you've registered and logged-in, you will be able to see pricing in your local currency and order literature without re-entering your "Mail To" information.

  12. Do I have to register to place an order?

    Yes, in order to provide pricing and other features we must know a limited amount of information about you. Registration is also a convenience for you. On subsequent visits to our site you will not be required to reenter this information.

  13. I forgot my password. What do I do?

    If you forget your user name or password, Click the  "Forgot Your Username or Password?" link on the login screen. This will prompt you to enter your User Name or email address.

    Once the requested information is entered, click the "Submit" button. Depending upon how your account was established, you will be prompted to either answer the Password Recovery Question you chose during registration or an email with a link to reset your password will be initiated. Simply follow the on screen instructions.

    If you are unable to complete the above steps, please send an email to indicating your username (if you remember it) or your full name and address and ask to have your password reset. Our help desk team will reset you password to a generic word and email you back the information to reset your password. You will need to log on with this information and change your password by going to the profile (My Profile) link to make the change.

  14. Is there anything I can't order On-Line?

    There are some products included on our web site that cannot currently be ordered. These include certain regulated substances as well as products that are packaged on demand. In addition, some products are only available to specific geographies due to certain restrictions.

  15. How much will I be billed for shipping?

    Shipping and handling charges vary depending on the type of products and shipping method selected. In almost all cases, the full amount of shipping, handling and any other charges will be reflected in the shopping cart as you build your order. If you have any special requests that require customer service to review you order, the amounts shown on the shopping cart may need to changed.

  16. Can I place an order from anywhere in the world?

    Sigma-Aldrich ships material to nearly all countries around the world. We have made our web site available to all these countries supported by offices in more than 30 countries. Orders are directed to the office with responsibility for each country.

  17. Can I have a Quote or Pro Forma prepared?

    The ability to request a quote/proforma invoice and convert it to an order through the web site is now available for customers in many countries. If that feature is available in your region and you already have ordering access, you should be able to add items to your Cart and, once in your Cart, you can submit a Quote Request instead of an Order. In the Cart there is a section called "Shopping Cart Items" containing the question "What would you like to do with these items?". Select "Request Quote" and then when the Cart is submitted, it will be submitted as a Quote. You will receive a Quote Number on the confirmation page. In the Order Center there will be a section for "My Recent Quotes" where this should appear. Use this section to access existing Quotes and convert them into Orders. Each item in the on-line catalog will also contain a link to a Bulk Quote Request Form. If you do not see this link, please feel free to contact our international sales office at

  18. Can I save my order?


    In your shopping cart there is a button at the bottom titled "Save Cart." Simply click this button and you will be prompted to name your order (cart). Select the save option when finished and the cart will be saved and available whenever you decide to "Activate" it.

    When you decide to add items, edit items or submit your order, come back to our web site and click the "Order Center" link located under the Order Tab on the top navigation banner of our web site.
    Once inside the Order Center, you will see a Saved Shopping Carts section. Click on the "View All" link to see a listing of saved orders (carts).

    To view a Saved Cart, click the cart name. To activate a Saved Cart, click the "Send to Shopping Cart" button and continue with your order.

  19. What do the icons/buttons displayed for each package size mean?

    Many common functions in the ordering process are now represented by icons. If you move your cursor over the icon a brief description of its function will be displayed.
