In recent years, the development of media used to expand and mature adult stem cells has greatly increased the success rate of adult stem cell therapy and the breadth of potential stem cell-based therapies. In order to obtain sufficient numbers of cells for applications of this therapeutic approach, ex vivo expansion has been utilized to ensure successful engraftment and economize the manufacture of both allogeneic and autologous therapies.  Proven performance

The Stemline media products are designed for maximum cell expansion. In fact, our media outperform competitor products consistently. When tested with bone marrow-derived HSCs, Stemline II HSC expansion medium promoted 3 times more growth than the next-best serum-free medium competitor, and over 5 times as much as other competitors. Similarly, Stemline II HSC expansion medium supports almost twice as much growth of umbilical-derived HSCs as its competitors, while Stemline T cell expansion medium supports over 1.5 times as much growth of CD4/CD8+ T cells as its competitors while maintaining over 95% viability.

Stemline demonstrates superior expansion of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells (HSC)

Figure 1: Stemline demonstrates superior expansion of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). To test the ability of Stemline II HSC Expansion Medium to expand CD34+ HSCs, researchers at MilliporeSigma and the University of Kentucky designed a bench-scale expansion assay. Cells were seeded into 24-well tissue culture plates and 1 ml of medium was added to each well with the appropriate cytokines to stimulate growth (100 ng/ml each of TPO, SCF, and G-CSF). Each condition was performed in triplicate and seeded with 10,000 cells per ml in each well. The cells were counted on day 14 and the fold increase was determined by cell count.
