Karl Fischer - Reagents for Aldehyde and Ketone Samples

Aquastar® CombiTitrant 5 Keto & CombiSolvent

For water determination in ketones, we provide CombiSolvent Keto together with CombiTitrant 5 Keto.

When performing water determination with the Karl Fischer method in samples containing aldehydes and ketones, if methanol is used as a solvent, it must be taken into account that these determinations are influenced by side reactions. Possible reactions may be the formation of acetals or ketals as well as bisulfite addition which can lead to false measurements. Aldehydes and ketones react with methanol to release water which can lead to sluggish titration endpoints. In contrast the bisulfite addition consumes water, which could lead to incorrectly low water content results.
