ChiroSolv Resolving Kits

Diastereomeric crystallization is a process that chemically separates enantiomers in a racemic mixture by adding an enantiopure acid or base, resulting in a mixture of diastereomeric salts. These salts have different chemical and physical properties from each other that allow their separation. Though an "older" technology, it very often competes favorably with newer techniques such as asymmetric synthesis, biocatalysis, enzyme resolution, kinetic resolution, or chiral chromatography, and today around 65% of chiral products are made using this technique. Not all compounds will form complexes and crystallize, but due to its easy adoption for manufacturing purposes, many researchers first try this method and use the other methods only if this method does not work. The major drawback to this method is that the selection of the ideal combination of resolving agents and solvents is a very time-consuming and labor-intensive process.

ChiroSolv® Resolving Kits are 96-well format kits that enable rapid screening of resolving agents and solvents for chiral separation. Each of these ready-to-use disposable kits contains a combination of eight resolving agents and 12 solvents and can separate a wide variety of racemates, including acids, bases, alcohols, amino acids, aldehydes, and ketones. Using these kits, optimum resolution that typically requires over two months can be achieved within 24 hours.

We now offer two different formats for each kit series, one for solid racemates, the other for liquid racemates. The kits for liquid racemates provide resolving agent and solvent combination in each vial. The racemate can then simply be added to start the screening process. The kits for solid racemates allow the researcher to dissolve the racemate into a volatile solvent and then dispense the resultant solution into each vial containing a resolving agent. The volatile solvent is evaporated and the prepared screening solvents are then dispensed from a separate plate into each vial.

  • 8 types (4 acid, 4 base) of ready-to-use disposable kits providing 768 combinations of solvents and resolving agents.
  • Easy to follow, step-by-step instructions and results charts.
  • Very little amount of racemate needed (less than 3 mmol per kit).
  • Amounts of the resolving agents are precisely calibrated to give accurate results; solvent percentage chosen to give optimum crystallization.
  • Kits are sealed with peelable or pierceable cap-mat or seal to allow for easy racemate dispensing.
  • Vials are held together by a plastic ring so that vials can be picked up and inspected together for crystal formation. Both the vials and the racks are both made of polypropylene material that is heat and chemical resistant and able to withstand temperatures of –20 °C to +120 °C.
  • Conveniently designed for easy robotic manipulations to eliminate human errors.
  • Long shelf life at room temperature (2 years).
