Protein of the Month, June: 𝛽-Casein from Bovine Milk
General Description 𝛽-Casein is part of a family of proteins called phosphoproteins, found in mammalian milk.
Application: Casein has numerous experimental applications including use as a blocking agent in immunochemistry, recovery of enzymatic activity from SDS extracted samples and as a substrate for protease and kinase assays.
Did you know? The use of casein was used in prehistoric times in cave-paintings. Since the 1960s, acrylic paints have become the popular choice.
