June: Collagen
Origin: Collagen is the main component of connective tissue and it is the most abundant protein in mammals. Collagen, in the form of elongated fibrils, is mostly found in fibrous tissues such as tendons, ligaments and skin.
Application: Commercial collagen is used as a substrate for studies. It has been used on clinical studies for diseases like example osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
How: Collagen is the main structural protein in the extracellular space in the various connective tissues in animal bodies.
Did you know: Per annum approximately 15,000 tons of collagen are processed in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Mainly for the production of hard and soft capsules.
