Protein of the Month, March: Kynurenine 3-Monooxygenase (KMO) from Pseudomonas fluorescens
Application: Huntington’s is an inherited disease that causes degeneration of neurons, symptoms of the disease include uncontrolled movements, changes in behavior, emotion, judgement and cognition. KMO is a potential therapeutic target for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases such as Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Action: Has a central role in tryptophan metabolism and in the production of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)
Did you know? At this time, treatment can not stop or reverse the course of Huntington’s disease.
