Autophagy Machinery Regulates Cell Death Switching – New Insights with Proximity Ligation Assays

Nature is hosting a live webinar, presented by Dr. Megan Goodall from the University of Colorado, where she will explore the mechanisms underlying the modulation of cell death by autophagy. Dr. Goodall will examine the switch between apoptosis and necroptosis, and share insights gained using the Duolink® PLA protein detection technology.

  • The importance of this process was highlighted by the award of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Medicine to Yoshinori Ohsumi. However, it is unknown if autophagy simply affects if cells die or also controls other aspects of programmed cell death.

What you will learn

  • The necrosome associates with autophagy machinery
  • Inhibition of autophagy can promote or inhibit cell death depending on early or late pathway inhibition
  • Autophagy modulates mode of cell death (apoptosis versus necroptosis) through p62/SQSTM1
