Alcohols are used to make a variety of polymers, primarily polyesters, polyurethanes, polyethers, and polycarbonates. Oligomers having hydroxyl functionality are used to make polymers with segments of a specific composition. Alcohols are also used to increase reaction rates for the cationic polymerization of epoxy monomers.
